Angie is definitely a warrior. She was diagnosed with breast cancer December 26, 2013 at the age of 34.  Over the next several years she underwent multiple treatments and surgeries aimed at providing her remission; sadly however, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in 2022.

In 2014, she began a Facebook group to support others through their own cancer battles: West MI Warriors.   She wants to remind others that “together we got this, no one fights alone!” She knows how difficult it is to maintain your sanity while dealing with such hardship. She has always been a giver and a caretaker, she said it is difficult to now be the one to accept help and know that she can no longer work.

Her current cancer diagnosis is deemed incurable and she has been told that she will need chemotherapy for the rest of her life. Even as the medical bills stack up and her body aches, she told the team at Meagan’s Way she will always try to remain positive. We are glad she reached out to us so we can give her some financial aid, and add her to our own warrior prayer list.

You can visit her support page here.

We had the chance to see Ashley last week at an Imperial Lanes Bowling Benefit. She is doing well; she looks fabulous, and she begins an experimental treatment in the near future that offers great promise. We are keeping her in our prayers and look forward to seeing her again at the Valenwine's Tasting benefit next month. Come celebrate with us! If you'd like to help Ashley during her journey through treatment you can donate HERE  and be sure to write Ashley's name in the memo.

Thank you Romeo Varsity Hockey TEam and donors

The Romeo Varsity Hockey Team honored Meagan and the Meagan’s Way Foundation at their 2025 annual cancer fundraiser playing against Utica-Ford at the Big Boy Arena in Fraser last week. The players and their families took a lot of time and effort to raise money with a bottle drive, raffles, collecting entry fees and other donations that will be used to help a local family in need.

Dominic Degenfelder played the night’s game in Meagan’s honor then presented the jersey imprinted with Meagan’s name to her brother, Michael Houle and her sons, Carter and Hunter Betcher.

The Meagan’s Way team was in attendance to watch the game end in a victory for Romeo with a score of 4-3.  After which they presented us with a donation in the amount of $2,865.

We are deeply grateful for their trust and contributions to our cause.  It is donors like this that enable us to continue Meagan’s mission of helping others who are struggling due to cancer.

Meet Melissa

Thankfully Melissa is currently in remission, however, last summer she received the devastating news that she had stage 2 breast cancer.  Her treatment has consisted of a mastectomy, radiation, oncology medication and lastly she will have to undergo reconstruction.

Melissa is very fortunate to have supportive family and friends during this journey. But unfortunately, her employer was not very understanding of her condition and let her go; resulting in no steady income or health insurance. She is working on getting some aid until she gets back on her feet full-time. In the mean-time, she has found part-time work doing what she loves - interior design.

Meagan's Way executive board member, Mike Houle, met with Melissa recently so we could give her some holiday cheer with a bit of financial relief. We are adding Melissa to our list of requests for healing prayers and will continue to help her when we can.

Meet Ashley

Meet Ashley, the newest family member at Meagan’s Way.  Ashley was an ICU registered nurse and nine weeks pregnant when she began having swelling and other health issues. After extensive testing last June, she was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, adrenocortical carcinoma. Unfortunately, after undergoing surgery to remove a tumor and losing a tremendous amount of blood, her precious child did not survive. She said she would forever be grateful to little angel Noah, had it not been for her pregnancy with him, she would not have found out that she was already at stage 4 with the cancer.
Since then, Ashley has undergone numerous and costly surgeries, procedures and treatments including chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy. Thankfully, she has a great family support system, her husband and two lovely little girls to cheer her on as she battles this terrible disease.
We at Meagan’s Way are adopting Ashley into our family; to pray for, and to help in any way possible alongside her in her journey. Please keep her in your prayers.  In addition to some financial assistance, we will be partnering with Ashley’s family for a fundraiser in the near future. Stay tuned.

Meet Chip and save the date! SUNDAY, April 21, 2024

Chip was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in July 2023. Having been a healthy person with little illness in his life, he knew something was wrong in the month of March 2023 when his energy waned and was easily fatigued. It was difficult to get through the workday.  By August 5, he had lost over fifty pounds. He has since had several surgeries and various treatments to combat the cancer. For eight weeks he could not eat and was on a feeding tube. Since his initial diagnosis, they have found bone cancer in his spine and cervical areas as well. There is a chance he will need a bone marrow transplant.

In a short time, he has fought through the most trying of times, but his focus is on beating this disease and staying positive with a good sense of humor.  His family refers to him lovingly as Ironman and he plans to live up to that moniker.

Meagan’s Way also has plans to help Chip in any way possible. In addition to the cash assistance, there will be a fundraiser at the Mona Lake Boat Club in Norton Shores on Sunday, April 21, 2024. Stay tuned for more details on the time and what will be in store for that day.

Santa's helpers

Meagan’s Way has been busy visiting with a couple more deserving recipients to help out with some financial assistance before Christmas day. Thank you to all our donors that make these moments possible!

MW has a special place in its heart for Karlie. She was one of Meagan’s treasured personal nurses at Beaumont Hospital (now Corewell Health) and is expecting a baby early next year. We wish her all the best with the new addition to her family.

And blessings to Stacy, who was just diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in October and started treatment last month. Stacy has been a loyal caregiver for others in the past and we are honored to help her out in her time of need as she takes the time to heal herself.

Keep these ladies in your prayers. We will follow and help our new Meagan’s Way family members whenever we can as they continue their journeys.
